Athletic Testing Solutions (My Heart Check): JCCC KSBDC’s Emerging Business of the Year

Emerging business of the year 2016
My Heart Check

In response to the rising prevalence of heart abnormalities in children, Eric Schroeder and David Kuluva have introduced an innovative solution to identify at-risk youth. Formerly known as Athletic Testing Solutions (ATS), now rebranded as My Heart Check (MHC), they are leading the way in providing mobile clinics for heart abnormality screenings.

The ATS Heart Check, a comprehensive screening procedure, includes a thorough assessment encompassing a review of the child’s family medical history, a health questionnaire, blood pressure measurement, an electrocardiogram (EKG), and an ultrasound imaging of the heart. Within a swift 10-day turnaround, results from these tests are meticulously analyzed by a pediatric cardiologist and shared with MHC. Subsequently, MHC delivers comprehensive reports to families and the child’s pediatrician. With these vital findings, parents and healthcare professionals can make informed decisions to safeguard their children’s health and well-being.

My HeartCheck® is part of our ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of the children and families across the states in which we operate. To date, over 12,000 children have been impacted as a result of investments from both My HeartCheck® and our partners. We continue to build on our legacy of caring with increased community support we receive from many school districts, youth organizations, and non-profit foundations. We are pleased to say our brand is recognized for providing high-quality heart screenings and compassion to those in need.

Our Relationship with My HeartCheck

The Strive for Life Foundation exists to help protect children from undiagnosed heart conditions by expanding access to professional heart screenings, especially in high-need  communities.

  • My HeartCheck provides the clinically based heart screening services for youth, including EKGs and echocardiograms with medical review by pediatric cardiologists.

  • Strive for Life Foundation raises charitable funds to help ensure that cost is not a barrier for families or communities in need.

The two organizations are separate and independently governed, with distinct roles:

  • My HeartCheck operates as a medical services provider.

  • Strive for Life Foundation determines how and where charitable funds are used to support screenings.

Charitable contributions to Strive for Life Foundation may be used to:

  • Provide financial assistance to qualifying families through an application-based aid program

  • Support fully funded heart screening events in high-need communities.

When Strive for Life Foundation supports screenings, it does so under a written service agreement at fair market value, just as it would with any qualified provider. This structure ensures transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of donor funds.

This approach allows us to:

  • Deliver high-quality medical screenings efficiently

  • Target charitable dollars to families and communities with the greatest need

  • Maintain clear accountability and separation between charitable fundraising and medical service delivery

Our focus is simple: helping more children receive life-saving heart screenings.
